Character Name: Selina Kyke aka Catwoman. Character Fandom:DC Comics. Character Background: Selina's life had been rough from the get-go. Her mother was constantly being victimized by her abusive father until she decided to cut her own life short by committing suicide. Her "father" had turned to binge drinking shortly thereafter and eventually drank himself to death about six months later.
Both of her parents having died, she and her sister were then separated by social services and placed in different foster homes. Selina ended up in Sprang Hall Juvenile Detention Center, a home for delinquent youths; it didn't exactly have a sterling reputation, as abuse and negligence were fairly common practices within state institution's walls. Instead of waiting out her few remaining years of adolescence, Selina opted to leave and take her chances of the streets of Gotham City's East End instead.
It isn't easy for anyone to survive in a city as crime-infested as Gotham, but Selina discovered she had a knack for petty theft and choose to survive that way, because a.) she was still a minor and b.) she didn't want her independence being taken away by being thrown into (yet another) state home. To further sharpen her own natural athletic talents, Selina turned to former heavyweight boxing champion, Ted Grant, to hone her martial art skills (mostly in kick-boxing and boxing).
One night, when she was out on the prowl, she caught glimpse of Gotham's very own Dark Knight in action. He served as the main inspiration for her to don a costume of her own and adopt the moniker of "Catwoman." To this day, she is known for being Gotham City's most notorious cat-burglar.
[Disclaimer]: I do not own Selina Kyle / Catwoman, she is the property of DC Comics and is the creation of comic book genius, Bob Kane. I do not claim to be the character in question or her avatar (PB), Rose McGowan.
